                         TOB/TIA Chapter 8

           2010 Indoor Scholarship Application

 

Directors:

 

Please be aware and make your participants aware of the following eligibility requirements and procedures for the 2010 TOB/TIA Chapter 8 $250 Scholarship. 

 

           The recipient must be in his/her senior year of High School or currently enrolled in a Trade School, College, or University.

           The recipient must have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher to be shown via unofficial transcripts or a current report card.

           The recipient must be an active member of a unit in good standing, who is eligible to compete in 2010 TOB/TIA Chapter 8 Championships.

           The recipient must have completed a full season in the participating unit by the end of the school year.

           The recipient cannot have received any prior TOB Chapter 8 Scholarship.

           The recipient MUST use the scholarship to further their education at an established Trade School, College, or University.

           The recipient will complete the entire Application and Unit Director must sign application prior to submission.

           All applications and unofficial transcripts MUST be returned to Kelley Revak postmarked on or before MARCH 27, 2010 NO EXCEPTIONS.

           All applications will be given to the scholarship committee void of identification of name or unit.  The essay will be read, and the committee will determine a winner based on the content of the applicant’s essay and the eligibility requirements.

           The recipient will be announced at the 2010 TOB/TIA Chapter 8 Championships.

           The recipient must submit transcripts and grades after the completion of the next semester at the college, university, or trade school  to receive the award.

NEW UNITS TO TOB/TIDA CHAPTER 8

Explanation of IMPACT Unit definition explained by Marty Altman. Used years ago on the east coast. Its compared to Blast.

- Introduction of Directors/Instructors.

- Eric Smith presents the Treasurers Report. Our Chapter is in the black.

- Judges Clinic will be held in Dillsburg, Pa on Jan 9 &10,, 2010. At Northern York High School

Sat Jan 9th. Will be for Dance, Guard, Twirling, and Timing and Penalties

Sun Jan 10th will be for Percussion all day.

- Evaluation day for Chapter 8 will be held at Avonworth High School. YOU MUST have your information into Teresa Ross by Jan 9th in order to get the afternoon and evening schedules done. The afternoon portion will be one on one with the judges and the evening portion will be a competition.

 

SHOW HOSTS

Please make sure you turn in your list of Attendees to Teresa Ross AT LEAST 3 weeks prior to your show date. It is recommended that you send out invitations to your show and gather your responses. Please make sure your invites show a cut off date 3 weeks prior to your date. NO ADDITIONS will be made to your line up. As the membership does turn in a show selection form to Teresa there may be differences in your list of attendees. This is why it is important to have the information into Teresa 3 weeks prior.

Marty urges all Show Hosts to get their show contracts in to NJA immediately if you have not already done so.

Tapes will be provided by the chapter to each show host at a cost of $0.35 per tape.

All show hosts must provide the floor split for their facility. This will be strictly enforced this year.

 

- Marty Altman stated that he has been more than lenient in the past regarding this. THIS CAN NO LONGER HAPPEN. This has been a timing issue in the past and for anyone who has competed in Wildwood knows that you MUST follow the timeline ruling. Show hosts must provide the webmaster with the floor split setup so that it can be easily accessible by the membership. Membership also requests of the show hosts to PLEASE provide Unit Areas separate from the spectator areas. This is for the safety of the performers.

 

- Eric Smith discusses a website that will assist directors with explanation of the indoor activity. It includes a 9 minute video to show to your Administration and School Boards. This website is www.newcustomersolutions.com/visit

 

 

- Requirements for promotions have changed especially in the colorguard catergory. Promotion number from the Novice to Intermediate A class is now 85 by 3/28/10.

- There will be no Timing Penalties until the first weekend in March. That would be the Carrick Competition.

IMPORTANT DATES:

March 1 2010 – Deadline for registration for Weekend in Wildwood.

January 1 thru March 28th – reclassification period

April 23, 2010 – must have competed in 2 shows to be eligible for competition in Chapter Championships

April 28, 2010 – must have competed in 4 shows and chapter championships to be eligible to compete in All Chapter Championships in Wildwood, NJ.

Personnel Changes cannot be made after April 1st.

- We will be putting the "Sleepless Nights" back out on the floor this year at Chapter Championships on April 24th. Kelley Revak will be taking the reigns on organizing this. We would like to put together a full show for the kids and the audience. This was such a huge hit last year. People are still talking about it. If you did not sign up at the meeting and want to join in the fun, please email Kelley Revak at kjrevak@yahoo.com. Practices will be announced ASAP. We definitely want to be more prepared this year and if anyone has a facility for perhaps, sunday evening rehearsals it would be greatly appreciated. Anyone can be a part of it. We will have dance baton colorguard, and we will teach the percussionists how to spin some piece of equipment. Just like we did last year with Tim Martin.

- Scholarship information will be out to the membership on or before 1/30/10 and must be postmarked by 3/27/10.

REMINDER:

Code of Conduct is a very serious issue. There were too many infractions last year. We need to all act accordingly. This will be monitored very closely this year. Each director must return a signed copy of the code of conduct to Teresa Ross. This states that they understand the code of conduct and the consequences that come with a violation.

If there is an issue at a show and Teresa, Marty and Eric are working as judges, PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH THEM WITH QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS. Seek out another board member, Tim Martin, Joanne Girardi, Kelley Revak, Amber Ross, or Erin Holsinger.

- Chapter 11 coordinator Bill Morrison would like to pass along the information for their chapter.
